Skinny Champagne I hear you ask, with a touch of skepticism in your voice?! Well yes, there is such a thing, and surely it can only be good as obviously (to us) you and your guests can consume higher quantities of the these healthier options? Thomson & Scott are the forward thinking company behind this beverage.

Thomson & Scott are specialists in Champagne, Prosecco and sparkling wine and are passionate about reducing sugar across the wine industry. They have produced a range of sparkling wine with less calories and sugar than your average bottle contains. The range: Champagne Grand Cru Brut, Champagne Grand Cru Rosé and Prosecco. The champagne doesn’t contain any added sugar at all, that’s right AT ALL!

Prosecco is 66 calories per 100ml and 7g sugar per litre, which is approximately half the amount found in other brands. And the price? £18 for a 75cl bottle. For £40 you can get the double size 150cl bottle which yes, does cost more than double the 75cl price but we’re going to assume that the extra £4 is for the fabulous giant bottle it comes in. The Prosecco Magnum might also come in handy for a special birthday present or an occasion where you may want to share your bottle with friends, or maybe just one friend… one very small un-thirsty friend.

Enough about drinking yourself skinny, what are the other features? Flavour is of course also very important. Here are the descriptions of each of the three products:

Skinny Prosecco: Fresh, clean and light taste with flavours of honeysuckle, jasmine, green apple and lemon zest.

Skinny Champagne Grand Cru Brut: intense aromas of red fruit, nuts and an appealing touch of spice.

Skinny Champagne Grand Cru Rosé: red fruit aromas, satisfyingly full-bodied and with a smooth, long finish.

That sounds like a pretty diverse range of flavours with just enough wine speak to assure us that they know what they’re talking about. But guess what? On top of all this their grapes are organic and Thomson & Scott only use vegan methods to create their products so you can feel super snooty about serving these ethical beverages to owners and guests. They are bound to love them!

But what’s the company like? Well, they have a blog to let you know all of their interests  (recipes, holidays, fashion, music etc) but the most important post is about how best to chill your Skinny drinks. Spoiler Alert: it’s ice-cubes made from juice, mashed fruit or the champagne itself. Another pro-tip of theirs is to keep your wine flutes in the fridge, We know you guys do all this in your sleep, but its good to know its got the Thompson & Scott seal of approval…

Skinny Prosecco

We’ll leave you with a quote which pretty much sums up what everyone thinks about this miracle product: ‘The basic bitch drink. You know you want in, so don’t even try to pretend you’re too cool.’ – The Guardian.

And another that sums up what we wish were true: it’s ‘basically a health drink’ – Cosmopolitan. Not quite a fact but Skinny Champagne and Prosecco in a chilled glass with fruity ice is exactly the kind of drink you’ll want this summer, and every summer after that.
