It’s almost the end of another year, time to reflect and remember all of the good times you had in 2017. We all know that after the parties and festivities of December, January can be a bit of a bleak and emotional month…….the perfect time to plan in something to look forward to for 2018 and perk yourself up!
Last year we brought you SnowBombing… This year we bring you it’s big, fancy brother… Snowboxx is Europe’s biggest snow festival! 5 snow parks spread over 14 valleys, 13 different resorts and 2 countries, 6 stages, 6 nightclubs, more than 650km of pistes, 200 lifts, 6,000 festival goers….hell yes! Snowboxx is a week long festival in Avoriaz, France and is on from 17th – 24th March 2018. It is set in Portes De Soleil which is the largest connected ski area on the globe and there is something for all of you snow loving party animals out there.
Let’s start with the music venues, all with their own unique features, vibes and music genres. The main stage is set in the middle of the mountains, in the festival arena with bars and food stops a plenty. This stage spits fire which looks pretty epic from the party zone listening to the big acts!
The Apres stage area is a nod to Apres experiences from around the world and boasts deckchairs on the terrace and platforms set up for the sole purpose of being danced on! The XX Stage is an indoor venue, a basement club for late night partying! Fancy being indoors but still want to see the snow and ice? Head to the Igloo Stage, the carved ice caverns are seriously impressive and the parties are crazy!
How about a mountain stage that doesn’t stay in the same place? The Rock The Pistes stage changes location EVERY DAY. Yes, this does involve the whole shebang being transported by helicopter and dropped off in remote locations around the festival! Last but not least we have Downtown, this area of the festival is made up of terraces with 6 different style clubs to explore, all lit up outside with neon lights aplenty!
Onto the powder! There are a wide variety of lessons available for those wanting to get active in the snow. All abilities are catered for, so even if you don’t think you have the skills going on, you’ll definitely have some once the festival is over! Those of you who are already confident on the slopes can also try freestyle lessons with expert instructors. If you want to check out the slopes before you grace the slopes then jump on a skidoo and get your very own tour guide to show you the sights from a different perspective. If you prefer a mode of transport that can give you aerial views of the stunning mountains then Heliskiing is for you. Jump in and you’ll be dropped at your very own spot in Switzerland with oodles of untouched powder. Heaven!
You will undoubtedly make some crazy memories at Snowboxx, there are plenty of activities to get involved in that aren’t your every day festival activity. We really want a game of Human Bowling along a snow covered alley! The bowling ball is a zorb ball containing a human, and that human then hurtles down the alley to knock over the giant pins. Not crazy enough? Ok, try The Skim Pool. This is a 20m pool full of icy water and the idea is to skim over it on ski’s/board/whatever vessel you choose…..sometimes (most times) this ends in full submersion so towels and a change of clothes are recommended. Any dress goes too, so dress up as whatever you choose and make your faceplant into the pool is worth it in comedy value!
For a more traditional activity (but better), Snowball Fight Night ticks all the boxes. This takes place on the Avoriaz ice rink and is a knockout competition. This one is good for the competitive souls amongst you as it is a team activity. If you feel like you need to get out of the cold for a while during the week then the festival also gives you use of the Aquariaz which is an awesome HEATED indoor water park.
The line up for Snowboxx 2018 looks incredible and covers many tastes. Fatboy Slim and Chase and Status are two of the big acts confirmed, we could give you a long list but we think you should head over to the Snowboxx website and check it out, along with heaps more information about the festival and everything you need to book your tickets and plan your week!
